A frame-sequence clip of the Kimi and Hamilton battle at the final chicane in Spa, 2008 Belgian Grand Prix.
There are a total of 11 frames in this picture-sequence movie clip. I need to clearly point out that this battle was not the issue at Spa and was not the reason why Hamilton was given a penalty. Hamilton was given a penalty at Spa because of the way he recovered from the chicane-cutting maneuver he went through, which gave him a clear advantage over Kimi (FIA's stewards' words...not mine). This chicane battle, however, has been made an example of all blind Lewis Hamilton fans out there to rationalize Lewis' unspoting actions against Mark Webber in the succeeding grand prix in Monza. You will clearly see the difference between the two incidents here.

First: Before the turn-in to the first corner of the chicane, they were "almost side-by-side". In this battle, Kimi did not push Hamilton to the outside line before the turn-in. He actually gave him room....and lots of it which allowed Lewis to follow him into the chicane.

Second: Kimi clearly put on the power way before Lewis did, allowing him to pull half-way in advance of Lewis. This happened in the 1st apex/2nd corner entry in the chicane. At this point, Lewis no longer held the speed advantage as Kimi is clearly pulling away...which legitimizes Kimi's act of holding on to the racing line. This was the point wherein Lewis should have braked and just followed Kimi through the last corner. Instead...

Third: Lewis insisted on following Kimi through the last corner, but without room on the track, he "bravely" cuts the chicane instead.

In contrast, in Monza, Lewis immediately (and illegaly) killed Mark Webber's opportunity of an overtaking move EVEN BEFORE THE TURN IN TO THE FIRST CORNER OF THE CHICANE.
