Here's the result of a fairly straightforward modification, lets you put highbeams on when lights are down.

  • Idle, 800rpm

  • yea he is. and is that al idol or 3500?

  • Non turbo auto trans should be 20*.

Grandpa might be used to older carburettor cars, my ford escort van says 8*, my mate's ford laser says 5* and my Hyundai excel said 12*.

  • yea ive looked everywhere in my book and i cannot find what the timing should be. i have a non turbo auto trans. yea i was talking to people on a z31 forum and they all set to set it at about 20*. my grandpa said that was impossible. lol. interface motor with 9.1 compression.

  • On the car in the video, the manual says to set it to 20*BTDC, so that's what I've done. In the manual for a turbo model I have, the manual says 15*BTDC.

  • hey what do you set your timing at. i've heard some people run them from 18*-22* with no troubles. just wondering what you recommended.

  • ah. ok. what could be main causes of poor mileage?my z has only got 113,000 miles (181,855 k)it runs great but gets abt 13-17 mpg (20-27 kmg) its a non turbo auto tranny.ive checked all the plugs (really clean) no sludge build up in the oil and air filter looks clean. (plugs are the hot ngk's) and the exaust is of of it after the cat. conv. p.s. their is a very slight miss at idol, goes away after its under a load. why do you think my mileage is so bad?

  • Yes, this will work on an American Z, the only difference is the location of the headlight relay.
