Nanami - "Everything You Want" (Revolutionary Girl Utena AMV)

Kiryuu Nanami's complicated feelings for her big brother Touga. Can you say, big brother complex? This is the primary relationship in her life, and it taints everything she experiences, and makes it hard for her to acknowledge other guys. Of course Touga plays shamelessly with her feelings for his own manipulative ends.

Note: I'm using the lyrics "he means nothing to you and you don't know why" in the sense that Nanami wants something more from Touga, but she is confused as to what that might be.

And in the final chorus when the lyrics change to "I" instead of "He", the pov is from the other males in Nanami's life who might want relationships with her of some kind (Miki, Tsuwabuki, 3 nerds).

Wonderful video and fantastic song choice. In spite of the hell most Utena fans give Nanami, she's one of my favorite characters. She's far deeper than she receives credit and her confused desires make her extraordinarily compelling.

I would agree that she is very compelling and partly because she is so multi-dimensional. It's interesting looking at her a second time and seeing her as someone suffering and therefore cruel, as opposed to just cruel. Poor Nanami...so similar to so many of us.

I thought this was marvelous! Nanami is one of my favorite characters (so interesting, so many levels! Ah, Utena) and I've been looking for a good AMV of their topsy turvy relationship. You made her look naive, confused, and innocent and I like that for a character so often portrayed as selfish and immature. In short: Loved the vid.
