After losing to Houston 33-13 in the previous week Florida State had the unenviable task of having to play Alabama. Alabama came into the game with a 21 game winning streak, and were three touchdown favorites against FSU. Also Alabama only allowed 37 points the previous season, and returned 10 defensive players from that team. Well on this night Alabama would allow 37 points in one game to FSU. FSU scored a late TD in the 4th Quarter to make the score Alabama 37 Florida State 36. Rather than go for two, FSU elected to go for one and the tie. After the game FSU Coach Bill Peterson said the reason why he went for one rather than two and the win was "I wasn't going to mess up 60 minutes of great effort by failing on a two-point try." The Choke at Doak in 1994 is the greatest tie in FSU history, and this 1967 Alabama game should certainly be second on the list.
