So how is that to be applied to the words you attribute him: 'rites and rituals are fetters'? Perhaps that not all are fetters or they are not always fetters. Is meditation ritual? Could be. Does it sometimes a fetter. Could be. Is it indispensable to reach enlightenment. Almost without any exception.
