Lovely video! I'm recently convinced that poling upstream and paddling down must have been the mode of it for early americans on most of our waterways. I pole my SUP board upstream and float/ paddle down with ease. Its great exercise and no more need for a car at both ends.

Great video .i've been poling boat/ canoes for 40 yrs ,as you show it's about the only way to go upstream in shallow riffles. alot less energy expended, good music choice . enjoyable watch ..

So impressive & stimulative! I'm a Japanese female enjoying kayaking & also traditional Japanese boat sculling. I made a traditional Japanese wooden boat of plywood, but it is is too light for sculling at the stern , which is traditional Japanese style. Your vd, however ,showed me an effective way. Poling is so common in Japan, but few pole in upper waters. I'll try like you.
