This is wonderful! I have a one year old cottontail that i just recently released about 2 weeks ago. She stays in my backyard and whenever she hears my back door open, she comes out of the bushes to greet me. :D
I rehab cottons all the time and release them at the local university. There is a massive warren of rabbits around there that are protected by fish and wildlife. I have seen many of my little boogers running around there to this day. I also keep domestic rabbits. This video is absolutely right, if you see a baby bunny on your property, leave it alone. Do not attempt to care for it, 9 times out of 10 mommy will truely know best. If it is wounded take him to a wildlife rehab society.
Thank you, Rehabber, for all your hard work and the pain, though I guess the saying, "It's better to have love and lost than to never have loved" holds true for you.
I appreciate the position of both the son of the rehabber and the 4-H'er--but I wonder if they are arguing two different situations unnecessarily? To imply that the rehabber is helping herself is rather silly--she goes through expense, time, and pain when she rehabs--how is that helping herself? It is rather like the mother of the 4-H'er--is she raising that opinionated, young person for herself, or because that is what she is supposed to do, regardless of the cost to her?
