The Daily Show Reminds Us that NAMBLA is a Joke

NAMBLA is a running joke on the Daily Show, as documented in this montage celebrating the show's 10th anniversary. The montage is followed by about a minute of commentary from me (magically changing the clip from copyright infringement to fair use). The first time I heard of nambla was in early 2000 was it? Around the time when a boy was murdered by 2 nambla members. Then like the description of the video said the case was dropped. Dark times for America.

Age of consent should be the same as the age a minor can be tried as an adult.

If someone is considered to have a mental understanding to know that the consequences of some bad thing they did, they have the mental capacity to know the consequences of sex. It's a pretty straight forward concept, and gets rid of the hypocrisy of it.

As far as NAMBLA goes I pretty much agree that it needs to be protected. Talking about cutting off peoples heads is fine and dandy but you should go to jail forever if you actually cut off someone else's head. Same holds true for advocating sexual relationships with children. I don't defend them because I like them, I defend them because it is not a far fall from banning NAMBLA to banning art, political discourse deemed too racy, etc. The government actually does function on a slippery slope.

As much as I distainly hate NAMBLA, I have to stand that the freedom to propose law changes is the right of EVERY American (barring those who has had those rights taken away by convictions of serious crimes). I hate NAMBLA, but I hate it when someone tries to take my personal freedom even more. Sadly, I must say, NAMBLA has every right to propose changes in current laws or new laws, and the people must vote to decide whether it will pass or not.
