Jethro Tull playing Cross-Eyed Mary live in 1978. This is from the "Bursting Out" album. The song is originally from the album "Aqualung", which came out in 1971.

Musicians:
Ian Anderson: Flute and Vocals
Martin Lancelot Barre: Electric Guitar
John Glascock: Bass
John Evan(s): Keyboards
David Palmer: Keyboards
Barriemore Barlow: Drums

In my mind, this is the best line-up Jethro Tull ever had.

  • 2:34-2:56 Holy shit!! Tull rocken at their best. This was a great lineup but the one with Eddie Jobson on Keyboards and violin and Mark Craney

on drums was fabulous(check out "Black Sunday") Thanks for posting

what is the best version of "Mary".

  • @RATkins741 My pleasure! This is my favourite Tull line-up, hands down. I do like the line-up with Mark Craney and Eddie Jobson as well, however, I feel the music they played (especially on A) is a bit too electric.

This version is a great one of Mary, but I think my favourite one is the one from Madison Square Garden 1978, but that's with Tony Williams on bass, not John Glascock. Of course, the original is fantastic too!

  • Damn this is an awesome version of the song!

  • @ghostrecon1234567 Agreed, just love it with Barlow and Glascock. The original is great, but this is spotless.

  • I believe this is THE definitive version of this song, better even than the studio version. Martin's cutting riff is awesome, barrie's drum phenomenal & Ian was thankfully still in good voice! This Live Bursting Out album is Tull at their finest, IMO!

Thanks for posting this tune. Tull lives & reigns!

  • @BillySeagull My pleasure! I love this version too. Check out the medley of this song and My God I posted, Barrie plays even better there (IMO), but sadly Glascock isn't there. Many think Bursting Out is a weak Tull album, I could not disagree more! Everything about is great, the only exception may be the excerpt of "Thick as a Brick", which I think gets a bit noisy at times.
