The Republican Party is not defined by its candidates it is defined by a set of principles such as smaller government; lower taxes the sanctity of life and freedom. The Republican Party of today is the Republican Party of yesterday we are the Party of Lincoln... Our principles have not changed.. Your examples are before Lincoln the Republicans first president.

That said, I do agree with a lot that is said in this video. I take great issue with the republican/democrat issue and how it's portrayed here though. It is misleading. This is all true. BUT-- are these people honestly trying to argue that the Rupublican party of the 18th and 19th century is the same as the Republican part of now?? It isn't at all! There have been several shifts in parties and party names through our country's history. First it was the Federalists (like the repubs of today) and the Democratic-Republicans (like the democrats of today). The names and leadership of these groups evolved over time.
