Smart Energy Pricing

In the not too distant future, smart meters and rates will give consumers a better understanding of their homes electricity use. The new meters and rates also will enable tools that consumers can use to manage their homes electricity use for greater savings and environmental protection. One electric company that has begun to install smart meters and offer smart electric rates is Baltimore Gas & Electric. A tyrannical government could issue carbon ration cards, they already want to tax the air we breath. The ultimate government goal, in my opinion, is rationing. Dept of Energy also required the ability to remotely shut off your power.The utility company may have a goal of implementing a mind numbing, complex, tiered pricing model that will extract the maximum profit from the uninformed customer. How else do you extract more profits from a relatively fixed customer base?

The government could use targeted power shut off to meet emission goals or more devious objectives like selective punishment for dissenting citizens. Look at what they did in California recently, shutting off the water to an agricultural community to save a minnow, then opening the flood gates after certain legislators agreed to vote in favor of nationalized health care. The ability to cherry pick any US household and instantaneously shut off the power with a single key stroke is our new reality
