Right after Bay Coast went through, the C&A left to head back to Elizabeth City. The lead unit used to have a Leslie RS3L horn, but it has since been replaced with a Nathan P3. You'll hear it at the end of this recording.

  • Got a slight correction for ya, the C&A ends in Edenton, NC. I've chased the train a few times from Chapanoak to Hertford. The C&A headquarters and engine facility is in Elizabeth City.

  • Thanks for the info, I've always loved this little shortline. It's a shame it only gets 2 trains per day!

  • The C&A is a very interesting shortline to watch. I'll have to take you out there sometime to see them run. They only run twice weekdays. They don't run weekends usually.

  • We did get run off later on by the NS Mechanical Department. :)

  • @nsgevo89 wrong, the C&A ends in Edenton,North Carolina and you would see a train three time a day:5:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

  • Great Video. An update however. CA 3841 qwas badly damaged in a bridge accident in March 2010 and now sists with sister 3842 at Elizabeth City OOS.

  • The GE's are similar to EMD's in what respect? Also...the only reason the GE's had high hood's (like emd) was because the company ordered them that way. Two totally different locomotives though. EMD being a 2 cycle diesel and the GE a 4 cycle diesel. Completely different operating characteristics as well.

  • another correction the actual trackage is 82 miles.

  • That NS unit is a high hood. Did you know that that GE universal series also had high hoods? The universal series are similar to EMDs.

  • One more correction, The C&A actually runs one train a day USUALLY from E City to Portlock and Back or E City to Edenton and back. (I should know, I run with them enough :) Sometimes we'll have their rock waiting in the Carolina Yard. Depends on what time the V14 comes in with it. You should do a cab ride with them sometime. They meet at 5 AM in E city and like having the company.

  • Not a problem, come one down sometime and we'll go a train huntin!!

On a side note, I took delivery of a custom-built, custom painted C&A GP-7M in HO (2158)scale. Should be getting the 2190 in a week or so once the kit-bashing donor arrives. I'll have to get a video of them running on the ARC layout next time we are running.
