Aside from the position at the top he an Mcilroy seem to have very similar moves toward the ball at impact. Both drop far beneath plane and come way from the inside.

i think he tries to play a fade. the path loks pretty going in a lot. but that doesnt mean he is coming from the outside. the pros do that so good. in out in the path is always the same. thats why they can change their stance ball positon and the angle of the path a little bit and they have the shape they want without changeing the characteristic of the swing a lot.
