It's a wooden rubix cube.

Your work is obviously a labor of love. The skill you exhibit in your finished pieces is a testament to the knowledge you have gained by simply doing! There is no greater teacher than experience and it shows! Very nicely done projects!!
Now, when are you putting together an instructional DVD for sale? Thanks for sharing!!

wow the cigar box and knife box look stunning. I actually.sound a bit like u, intimidated at the mistakes I could make, but I really want to make something of worth for myself. How do I get started. Urs is only utube vids ive seen. If I wanted to make a small, pretty box would it take a lot of tooling investment?

@madbadJim Start off by getting the book Tauntons Complete Illustrated Guide to Box Making by Doug Stowe. You can get it used on Amazon for $10 or $15. The tools used are a table saw, and a planer. The planer isn't necessary but nice to get the exact board thickness. Other than that an electric hand sander though belt sander is nice. All of this can be done with non-power tools as well but the table saw makes things move along much faster. I hope to make step-by-step box making videos soon.

@47mustang - The first oak puzzle box is Cyrus Redblock. The plans are available for a few bucks and the site link is in the description. The smaller, easier puzzle box is a modified match box puzzle box. Those plans are for given for free on the same website.

hi, I was just wondering you mentioned online tutorials and books, any hints on which are the most usefull? by the way you've got a fellow cigar a knife lover here! thanks for giving me the confidence to start woodworking!

@bigheadchau - I have a few books, but the one I would recommend the most is Tauntons Complete Illustrated Guide to Box Making by Doug Stowe. This is a great book with several different techniques. This book gave me the confidence to make my mahogany humidor and go on to other projects.
The main thing is just to start making boxes. Most of your real learning will come through making mistakes and figuring out how to fix or hide your mistakes. Some of my best boxes started out as disasters.
