A quick look at this beautiful train that services Albuquerque, New Mexico. This impressive looking rail-line services the major N.M. cities although many states would use light rail trolley type conveyances for the somewhat limited route it runs.. Very impressive looking train. Pure "eye-candy". Great to see.

  • The funny looking cartoon bird on side adds a nice touch to the name Rail Runner.

  • @tjmady That cartoon is a take-off of the original "Road Runner" cartoon character (circa 1950s and 1960s) that was always being chased by "Wile E. Coyote" and the Road Runner would always outsmart the coyote.

  • Thanks for your note. You're right about the train being every bit full sized FRA compliant, etc. What I was implying in my remarks is that most counties and municipalities would use trolleys (light rail units) for this type of passenger service. I guess there was lots of funding for this project when it was being implemented.

  • i recorded this train. it was going from las cruses to i have no idea where but i followedit...and recorded it on my phone!!!!very beautiful train

  • My Amtrak train to Chicago was refueling in Albuquerque when I heard the whistle of an in-boud train. Looking down the track I saw it's headlights in distance and I took my digital snap-shot camera and turned it to video mode and recorded the video on this page. It was the first time I saw the RailRunner and I was amazed at how futuristic it looked. It is real eye-candy and once you see it, you love it!

  • How is that light rail, it's rail!!!!

  • That was only for the start up runs, now that they run 5 car trains up 3% grades, they need all that power.

Also used because the New Mexico state bird is the Road Runner

  • That roadrunner on the side of the engine scared my kids.

  • Why such a huge loco to haul only two carraiges. I am surprised they do not use a DMU on that line.

  • Original look

  • The best commuter train I've ever been on.
