http://www.opamerica.com I am presenting a vintage Arvin table model 540T AM metal tube radio! Knobs are a dark brown plastic (bakelite?). The bottom reads, "Chassis RE-278 117V. AC-DC 30 Watts." I've read this model was made in 1951. The metal radio is pink with dark paint splashes. The radio easily powered up and played. In excellent shape! The bottom screws and the wood back look new so I'm going to assume this radio has been restored. Measures 8 1/4" inches wide, 5 1/4" inches tall, and has a depth of 4" inches.

  • replace the effin caps

  • There is a terminal on the antenna coin inside the set. That's where you connect the longwire to.

The set can do well with a short 3' antenna, and having it coild here doesn't seem to be a problem. The main thing is the filters on this set, and a clean repaint over that hideous pink. It is not original. Ivory, black, or pea green would look nice.

  • Hi, This was probably not the original paint on this set. I have seen thousnads of sets but never the pink Arvin. For those who don't know, this is a metal cabinet, and many of these have been chromed. MIsinformed sellers will say the chrome is original. They never mad a chrome model.

Recap the set and it should be fine.

  • Nice radio. Don't repaint it. That look is 10 times better than losing that original paint. Old radios made to look new stink. Just my opinion. You could however "recap" it :)

    Thanks

  • How did you make that antenna? And how did you hock it to the radio?

  • If the interference does not come from an outside source, the radio needs fresh power filter capacitors. This is a common problem with old radios. The capacitors in power supply filter dry up and the 60Hz AC line frequency reaches the audio circuits. This could be a nice Arvin restoration project.

  • nice radio!

  • Why don't you try unwinding that coil of wire you have for the antenna? What good does it do all coiled up? Radio could also use a tune-up because it doesn't really receive much.
