Seriously? Ask any vet, or any serious dog breeder. A female dog is a bitch. Has nothing to do with "being in the south" and is certainly not meant to be derogatory while used in this context. It's a shame society has fallen to a point where a word that's been used for hundreds of years is now taboo because people allow its slang use to dictate how they feel about it.

dogs and wolves are similar in that they bond with baby animals quickly, and the dog automatically sees the chick as something to protect and care for--it was so cute when he was forcing the baby under his chin so he could bite anyone who came by XD
