Assalamu alaikum,

The recommendation of reciting both the beginning and ending ten verses of Surat al-Kahf (the 18th sura of the Quran) has been transmitted from the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace). It is also recommended to recite the entire sura on Fridays.

Imam Mundhiri (Allah have mercy on him) devoted a chapter of his al-Targhib wal Tarhib (Encouragement and Warning) to this,

Encouraging reciting Surat Kahf, or Ten Verses from its Beginning or Ten from its End

Abu al-Darda (Allah be pleased with him) related that the Prophet of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said, Whoever commits ten verses from the beginning Surat al-Kahf will be protected from the Dajjal.[Muslim, Abu Dawud, Nasai, and others; the wording is Muslims]

In a narration in Muslim and Abu Dawud it states, From the end of Surat al-Kahf. Tirmidhi related is with the words, Whoever recites three verses from the beginning of al-Kahf will be protected from the tribulations of the Dajjal. [Mundhiri, al-Targhib wal Tarhib, #2172-2173]

Imam Shafi`i (Allah have mercy on him) said in his Umm,

It has reached us that whoever recites Surat al-Kahf on Fridays will be protected from the Dajjal. [Shafi`i, al-Umm, 1.239]

  • please correct the translation:

it's not - you will not be able to be have patience with me

  • @iamsguy Allah knows best and may Allah guide us all to the path that is accepted by Him.

  • @iamsguy In Islam, all actions are judged according your intentions, as stated in a Hadith in Bukhari: Innamal A'maalu Bin Niyaat, which means: "Verily, every action is judged according to it's intention"

Hence, if your intention is to attain the full reward, Insha Allah will reward you accordingly.

But like user: sara83sheikh has stated below, listen and also recite it from memory or looking in the Qur'aan brings greater reward.

  • listening is ok as such, that brings sawab only,of course, but the Hadis about the noor between two Jumas doesnt says abt listening but reciting! In Addition, Allah will grant all that Noor to the recitor on the day of Judgment as well :) Bless u all..

  • what if u listen that will be the same innit someone answer me plz and i am talking about suratul kahf on friday reading or listening

  • does it include people who listens to the recitation? =]

  • masha'allah.... beautiful

  • I am impressed by how the Quran uses parables and similitudes to vizualise for the reader the picture of some verses. Divine creativeness f you ask me!

    Sallaaam
