Dr. Kenneth Mautner, Emory Sports Medicine, describes the use of Using Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) for treatment of sports injuries such a tennis elbow. During the PRP procedure, a patients blood is drawn and placed in a centrifuge for five to 15 minutes to separate out the platelets. The layer of platelet-rich plasma is then removed and injected directly into the diseased portion of the tendon with the guidance of ultrasound.

Video produced by Larry Warry and Geoff Huitt, Emory University School of Medicine.

About Dr. Mautner

Emory Sports Medicine specialist, Kenneth Mautner, MD, uses this procedure to repair injured tendons and ligaments that have not been able to heal on their own or successfully treated. Mautners experience with PRP has been very positive for patients. Using ultrasound to monitor improvement, he has seen tendon injuries gradually heal completely. Within a reasonable period of time, patients have been able to go back to their normal activities without pain.
