@iliveinmyguitar That was David Paton who was asked to step in after Bob Birch was runover on the sidewalk by some idiot driver in Montreal. I believe the NY shows happened shortly after Montreal so Paton probably didn't have enough time to learn all of the songs as well as he would have had he been playing the entire tour. I've heard/seen this song performed later in that same tour and Paton does a much better job.

War makes money, cancer sleeps
Curled up in my father and that means something to me
What Bernie is saying in this song is that money, war, etc. don't matter as much as love and the fact that his dad had cancer was important to him because he loved him. The lyrics in this song are very powerful but you have to understand them to get the full message.
There are lots of good Elton songs. Way too many to list.

what does that comment about his dad mean? does he hate his dad? coz I think the lyrics in this song are really sad. why does he say "and that means nothing to me." the music is fantastic, but I don't like some of the words. what other elton songs are good?
