Interactive Challenge: Hold Your Breath

HOW LONG CAN PEOPLE HOLD THEIR BREATH?
Average people can hold their breath (above water) for 45 - 90 seconds. If you think this challenge was too easy, then try it underwater! The current world record for the longest breath held is 8:58 without the aid of an oxygen machine (like David Blane used for his 17 minute breath). My best (above water) time is 2:02 (122 seconds).

WHAT IF SOMEONE DIES?
It's impossible to kill yourself while simply holding your breath. If you pass out before 83 seconds, then I think you've got bigger problems that you need to see a doctor about! Use common sense. Don't cover your nose or mouth (with anything) while holding your breath and STOP holding your breath when I tell you it's time to breath. USE YOUR COMMON SENSE! If you think that playing this game will hurt you, then either play at your own risk or DON'T PLAY AT ALL!

@fflover9000 I actually think you'll find there is a difference between normal breath holding on air (21% oxygen) and holding your breath after breathing pure oxygen (the record you are referring too). In which case, the record is actually 20:21 set by Ricardo Bahia from Brazil. Think before you criticize.
