America's public schools were once considered the hope of freedom and democracy. Yet, as John Whitehead reveals in this week's vodcast, students currently attending public schools will be marked by overreaching zero tolerance policies, heightened surveillance, and an emphasis on behavior-controlling drugs--all resulting in the destruction of privacy and freedom.

  • No offence but im glad I don't live in America. I mean, all over the world the people in power mess people about, but in America it seems worse generally..

  • Zero Tolerance Policies are based on Post-Columbine fear. People are overreacting way too much. No matter how much they do, people will never stop shooting up their schools.

  • @ticks4ticks4 Now that's knowledge. That's what people should do.

  • Breath Mints = Expulsion.

    Ridiculous.

  • @AverageBudgetFilms Or "Subdivisions" by Rush, "Killing In The Name" by Rage Against The Machine or "Jeremy" by Pearl Jam.

  • Why is it always the stupidest fucking people among us who are responsible for our "security"?

  • Midol? Scope? Nail file? Really! Instead of suspending, at the WORST, they need to "CONFISCATE"--sure, even, the Scope, Midol, nail file, paper with gun, maybe return to parent (except the gun toys/drawing), talk to the student privately (firm but informative, polite manner), explain what's acceptable/in violation, mention need for doctor note and nurse visit (even for OTC drugs), conference with parent & student, and explanation about future behavior/contract. This is ridiculous!

  • this is the most STUPEDEST thing

  • @chickenfrend I know! Stop rubbing it in!! lol. That's why for the upcoming 2011-2012 year, I'm gonna see if I can get into this online public school

  • @ultimatedbzgtdbfan I am lucky.
