@jgoggan a car audio shop told me i had to get a relocation kit for about 180 and relocate my stock head unit to the trunk so i could control the info center..for my car this wasnt necessary. i just bought a 20 dollar harness ran a power wire supplied with the harness to the fuse box but with this 20 dollar harness no door chimes(thank god i hate those)and no date ..my car is the 2006 pontiac grand prix base model no onstar no push to start and no buttons on the stearing wheel.. hope this helps

@Supralover87 Ok -- thanks for the info. I knew about the module, but was hoping that it wasn't necessary. I'll budget that in if I go with a different head unit. Thanks.

@Supralover87 Does this Unit require an ext. cd player or similar? I bought something similar to this that required it, and could not use it. I would replace the head unit but the car is my dad's and He would rather have the factory unit than more power to the speakers.
So, Crutchfield says that to switch to a new headunit, you must use the an integration adapter to retain the vehicle's warning system chimes. Can you confirm if that is accurate? Do you still get your warning chimes with a new headunit in the 2006 Grand Prix? (They mention the date issue too that you are having, so they got that part right, at least.) Thanks!

@jgoggan the module that i bought from AudioExpress ($100-ish) worked perfectly. it comes with a "chime retention module" that keeps the "default" chimes working with a external "speaker" basically instead of it coming through the actual car speakers it routes it through the module and allows you to connect the hard to a new head unit. takes about 1-2 hours to complete the whole installation "properly". if you watch my other video about the car stereo you will see the new stuff. link in video.

@Supralover87 yes, you do for some reason lose the Date on the info center (no idea why) you can set it and about 5-10 seconds later the things just "resets" and i dont know why (memory leak?) who knows.

Can you give me more information on your aux hookup? I am trying to find one for mine currently
royabeauchamp 2 months ago
@royabeauchamp i bought mine from either amazon or ebay (ebay i believe) for like $60. if you have the money i would suggest to just replace the entire unit since the speakers are capable of handle lots more power than what the stock stereo puts out. if you just want the AUX hook up here is the part # GM12-AUXV2, comes with a input box and enables the "aux" extension on the factory deck. you can power the unit straight off the decks power supply. let me know if you need more info.

Does anything run through the radio? Such as alarm or horn? I wanna put a new head unit in mine.

@vaderraider666 from what i experienced, installing the new head unit in my car, there were no issues with the alarm or horn...2 things that were phased as far as i could tell are the date in the info center, even after being set 3+ times, wouldn't stay set (turns back into ------------- ---- in moments) and the steering wheel controls (pause, play, next/previous, etc) didn't work due to the harness being changed. I have not come across any other issues/problems at this time.
