Composer: Con Conrad (music) & Herb Magidson (lyrics)
Song performed by: Fred Astaire
Dance performed by: Fred Astaire

It's just like looking for a needle in a haystack
Searching for a moonbeam in the blue
Still I've got to find you

It's just like looking for a raindrop in the ocean
Searching for a dewdrop in the dew
Still I've got to find you

I'll roam the town in hope that we'll meet
Look at each face I pass on the street
Sometimes I feel the beat of your feet
But it's just my imagination

Though it's like looking for a needle in a haystack
Still I'll follow everything you do
'Cause I've got to find you.

  • Oh ! I love a lot !

  • @80scouplerules I noticed this on the DVD version just yesterday!

  • Fred Astaire wearing a necktie for a belt in 1934. Fashion icon to the max.

  • totally awesome!!!

  • I just absolutely love this scene! Wonderful singing, amazing dancing, and an inventive and fun way to get elegantly dressed. Besides, it's also fun to try and guess what was going through the other man's mind as Fred was flinging clothes at him while he was singing and dancing across the room.

  • I only saw this for the first time at age 44, a few years ago, and it was really neat because I was going through a hard time-- that wasn't the neat part, but I thought "people in the great Depression went to the movies for escapism," and I watched Fred & Ginger for unadulterated escapism! Now all I remember about that hard time was how fun these movies were!! I danced around and pretended to be Fred and had a great time... ;-)

  • The most elegant way to get dressed ever!

  • whoosh! running a bit fast.

  • Sophisticated, fantastic, superb, beautiful, poetic.... I could go on and yet it doesn't matter. I love classic movies so very much; alot of people are extremely missing out on wonderful art. I just love Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers- what a pair! I am so glad you all adore this film. I feel like the only person in the world who likes classic movies and I come here to venerate them and see that all you wonderful people are just the same! Thank you for posting this classic piece!

  • Nobody has ever been better than Fred. He is still the greatest.
