Easter marks one of the most profitable times of the year for the chocolate industry. While kids across Canada enjoy the tasty treats, there are thousands of child slaves that are forced to work on the cocoa farms that produce much of the world's chocolate. 16:9 traveled to Ghana, West Africa where children, some as young as 10 years old are fuelling a child labour movement in the region's cocoa fields. What are Canadian chocolate companies doing to help improve the conditions for these children? You may be surprised by the answer. 16:9 brings you a closer look at the darker side of chocolate.

  • This fails to mention that big foreign companies dumped huge amounts of cheap rice onto these countries' markets, which ruined millions of rice farmers' livelihoods and heavily contributed to the conditions in which slave labor thrives.
