What is its artistic merit?
This shows how memory corresponds to the natural flow of the human lifespan. Memories tend to overlap, fade away, become hazy, disappear, and how new memories are created. This is also a visual metaphor as to how some are more vivid than others are.
What was my process?
While watching strobe lights, flashing neon lights, and people going around in circles, I noticed how certain people never change the way they move their body despite the current music, and how others change to adapt to the new trends, or cope with having to deal with skating with an injury. Moreover, how this movement is reflected in the way that the people skate.
What do I want the viewer to get from it?
Hold on to memories and, take time to realize that as we grow our memories and perceptions of past events will and have changed over time.
What was my concept?
I was intrigued as to how moving around elliptical bowls in a social gathering is so popular. People who were otherwise strangers seemed to forget that when music and lights hit, much like the memory of someone whom one has not seen in a long time. Then there were those who went alone, like memories that were destined to disappear.
