@BroadwayBenFOSHO why all the laughing? also the woman who plays ms. lovett needs vocal work.

@Animeartist124 I actually think Patti brought a level of fierce, but subtle sexuality to Mrs. Lovett, one that had never been addressed before, because she'd always been played as a cockney, lower-class fishwife-type. Here, due to the storyteller theatre concept, there's a new take on the characters. And Patti's was out of the world. Such a brilliant performance. She's sexy, ghoulish, and quirky all at once.
And I loved the little padding they put on her butt. Heh.

how the fuck did he come up with the mrs lovett design
-
@heidston yes me too
-
@LaCageAuxGypsy in the DVD remake yes it is just a little blood in the razor but in the original stage show blood was sprayed across the stage

I love Patti so much! But I prefer her Sweeney Todd in Concert with George Hearn! It's incredible
-
Patty luPone is god awful in this.

FYI the original production when a killing took place a huge arch of blood was "sprayed" across the stage/ barber shop. If you think this production was more "violent" I think you need to have yourself check out by a Neurosurgeon

John Doyle's Sweeney Todd Rival was AMAZING- it was meant for people who bother understand and know the show and do not need huge set changes to follow the story. The talent of the cast being their own Orch. was amazing and what I loved most about the show- it was a perfect abstact revival....

it's funny, that's exactly what i like about it. it gives broadway a bit of much needed diversity. not everything has to be *kick-turn-one-two-three* we should broaden our idea of what broadway is. i suspect this is why a lot of good musicals and plays can't get into the big theatres.
I think the revival did amazing things with this show, and Patti Lupone was very good for the part.

i completely disagree. I think this is one of the most successful productions that i have seen on broadway, and it goes along with sondheims original idea of the show. It was conceived as a 9 person off-broadway intimate show. From that it was turned into something extravagent.
