@zinnington I agree strongly with TristramTrio here. There are plenty of innovative cats getting around these days, and there were a lot of bad, but popular musicians around before. And I think that the fact that jazz isn't as mainstream, means that there is potentially, a greater quality rather than quantity of jazz musicians. Being a jazz musician isn't attatched to fame or money necessarily, so most of the jazz musicians do what they do because they love jazz, not for the money or anything...

Gaga to the people that were actually big in those days, and you will see that they were just as bad. The only "devolutionizing" you could consider true is hip hop, but that has a completely different socio-political significance, and dance music, where the music was never the point.
