they help with the positioning of the teeth by applying a different directional force.

Hahaha! I just got rubber bands and I did the exact same thing, so I googled to see if anybody else does this.

haha, mine do that, it's even better cause mine go straight down the middle of my mouth so there's more of a ping to it, i find myself strumming twinkle twinkle little star when i'm bored in class haha.
