Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad K-36 steam locomotives nos. 484 and 488 eastbound double header special crosses New Mexico State Highway 17 climbing the 4% grade between mileposts 338 and 337 with 9-car train just south of Colorado state line. Locomotive No. 484 will be cut from the train at the summit of Cumbres Pass to power a freight special to Antonito, CO running ahead of the regular passenger train. Saturday, June 19, 2010.
Great video. Thank you for sharing. This is not far from the Ghost Train of Mesita. In 1910, the San Luis Southern Railway was completed by a subsidiary of the Costilla Estates Development Company. This line was known as Colorado's loneliest railroad. The line served a connection with the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad at Blanca.
