This is me trying to improvise on the guqin, using one string, since I still suck. This is the last video with a broken instrument, as its fixed and tuned by now (thanks to Juni). So, here it is.

  • How did you managed to break 5 strings? Either the strings are bad, the qin is bad or you're tuning it too high (which can only happen if you use the tuning block 'thingy')!

  • It's not that I broke the strings, but that the rope holding the strings was broken when tuning the instrument (that rope was rotten(?) or otherwise bad), so the strings couldn't be attached. Now that the rope was replaced, the instrument is in good condition, just not in this video.

  • The replacement rongkou are made of 4 strands of 100% cotton intertwined. Regardless, they will break if they experience great differences in humidity and negligence.

Which is more than what I can say for shady music shops...

  • Oh, the rong-ko! Yes, if the cord breaks it means it is not good. It should be silk but I've seen ones made from ordinary thread which I have seen break.
