The hippies I knew were good people. Wherever I met them around the world, in Europe or North America, they all shared the same ideals. The American variety, young people seeking an alternative lifestyle and an escape from the Viet Nam era values forced upon them by their nations leaders were artists, adventurers, surfers, college students, spiritualists, musicians, nature lovers. Above all they loved their country and cared enough to speak out and protest the injustices of the time. They were the true American patriots. After the San Francisco scene went bad, corrupted by the criminal element of hard drug pushers and other low life masquerading as their hippie brothers, most fled to the countryside and many to Hawaii. I met up with a few on Oahu ....
