  • U can Understand how a great volleyer Sampras was , when he returns Safin's big BackHands with volley winners , just insane skills . @ 3:49-4:18

  • sampras is the best player ever was

  • @davd1986 Same goes to Nalby, Rios, Mecir... When they play out of their minds, nobody beats them. But for how long? Neither was able to win a single GS.

  • @quiet1234 It may have been out of this world tennis, but it was no fluke. Safin was very well thought of from the early days on the pro tour. Sampras himself said that Safin could easily dominate the tour for a long time, but it all depended on him. McEnroe, Agassi, Becker, Wilander, Courier, they all said Safin could win a lot of majors. Obviously that didn't happen, but I've seen Safin play #1 tennis quite a few times. Beating the likes of Sampras and Fed to win majors takes some doing.

  • @davd1986 Safin never played like USO 00 final ever again, It was all flash no thought tennis. Mats Wilander called it "completely out of his mind" So that doesnt count.

  • Sampras served extremely well here, but Safin just wasn't making the shots he was making at the USO and Toronto that tournament. Too much tennis beforehand and perhaps being already qualified for the knockout phase hindered his concentration, and Sampras was in a must win situation and he came out with the goods.

  • Remember very well this one, he played so good that I couldnt believe he had lost to Hewitt 57 06 and struggled with Corretja in RR.

In this match he played like a God, like in the 01 USO 4th round - semis.
