omg I freakin' love that dikad dikad daa thing!!! Sorry, I'm not musically educated enough to know what it's called. I've listened to Bollywood music most of my life and never really appreciated classical stuff, but now that I'm starting to, I kind of love it!

it's called konnakol, it's the traditional indian way of learning rhythm, when learning a percussion instrument they are not allowed to physically play a rhythm until they can 'speak' it
there are quite a few videos of solo konnakol on here, look them up, it's fascinating

It is also there form of counting, but instead of counting in measures ( 1 2 3 4), it is counted in phrases ( Ta Ka Di Me = a phrase of 4). This comes from the fact that there phrases are actual sentences with physical representations, in essence they are telling a story or a poem with music. Think of the "holophoner" from Futurama
