This is a comparison of three different gas impingement AR-style weapon systems: 5.56 X 45 (or .223), the 6.8 SPC, and the 7.62 X 51 (or .308). Any one of these weapons is a good choice, but this video gives you a peek at how they perform so you can make your own decision.

  • I want a gun for home defense as well as hunting. I'm leaning towards .308. To hell w/ fighting the infantry. We'll be more worried about evading than laying down suppressing fire anyway if it comes down to uncle sam disowning us. With those 30,000 UAVs the government wants flying around the US by 2015, it's pretty much over anyway.

  • @opinionatedinc If you are going to use a .308 for home defense, I would ensure you only use soft / lead-tip rounds if you live in a neighborhood at all. .308 is a highly penetrative round, and a FMJ could easily exit an exterior wall with plenty of lethal energy left in the projectile. I love my .308, but I don't think anything beats a 12 ga for home defense... inexpensive, too. Thanks for the comment!

  • For how much money will you teach me how to shoot like that???

  • @DEVGRUSCOUT I just posted another video showing some good Extreme Close Quarters pistol drills. Check it out if you're interesting in learning how to improve with that type of shooting.

  • @hutch8789 HAHA! Thanks for the comment... i think... ; )

  • 6.8 ftw !

  • Leaning more toward AR-10, but still cannot decide. I do not own an AR platform yet.

  • .308 is BOSS !!

  • @wigon Yes, I'm former military intelligence, US Army 10th MTN. Most civilians think of combat as two guys shooting at each other until one of them gets killed or surrenders, but as you clearly know, there's a lot more going on than you see in the movies or video games. Thanks for the comment!

  • @allMTN Well said. I take it you are ex-military as you have it perfectly correct. For home defense, I'd choose a solid 12-gauge shotgun with 00 buckshot. But for warfighting, 5.56mm is hard to beat as long as the squad has the heavier 240's, M203's, and DMR's. The Russians have a similar layout with 5.45x39mm on their rifles and RPK-74's, but with Vintorez/AS-VAL for close heavy hitting and PKM/PKP and SVD's (or KORD's or AGS-30's if they're lucky) for long range heavy hitting.

  • @Timespartan111 That was a DPMS AP4. I have since upgraded it to a P308 from Patriot Ordinance Factory.
