Shaw & Maxwell on sanctions

I'm shattered that Shaw is out for 8 weeks BUT I agree with the AFL. Last year cricket was RUINED because of the pathetic reactions of cricket's governing body to the Pakistani corruption scandal. I know it was a different situation - but what the AFL is doing here will prevent anything like what happens in cricket happening in the AFL. It's silly little innocent mistakes like this that open the door for people to be corrupted. Once the integrity of the game is gone there's nothing to support.

@ChordAbsolute oh thanks 4 tellin me that. i understand now

way over the top Collingwood! Anybody would think he killed his grandmother. What is needed is some balance and common sense. What about a warning?
-
@SamSouied12 they aren't allowed to use any inside information for betting use
but you can bet for AFL, but it is probably preferable to steer away from AFL betting incase something like this happens. It's only against the rules if you get caught
-
@ChordAbsolute so can they bet if you dont no the information?
-
Every player knows the rules and it has nothing to do with drugs or anything else. Accept they fucked up and relise they are bloody lucky not to have been suspended for 12 months!
-
@SamSouied12 cos Maxwell is a defender and the odds for him kicking a goal was about $100 in Round 9, the game plan was Maxwell starting forward so the actual odds for him would have dramatically decreased. Maxy and Shaw knew this information and passed it on to two outside parties, they made bets of $20 and $85 therefore the bets are "rigged", rules state you cant use the information for betting use
The consequences were way too heavy
AFL needs to act more logically

To everyone talking about 3 strikes for performance enhancing drugs, you have got it completely wrong.
If a player has taken performance enhancing drugs, they are sanctioned immediately & publicly (eg a 1-2 year playing ban).
If a player has taken 'recreational' or 'illicit' drugs (eg marijuana, heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, etc), it comes under the 3 strikes rule. However, if these same drugs are found on game day, then it can have the same penalty as the performance enhancing drugs rule.
-
@ChordAbsolute ohk, but whats wrong with betting on kicking the goal
-
@SamSouied12 Nick Maxwell told a family member that he was starting forward at round 9. Family members were told this information and placed a bet that Maxwell would kick the first goal. Heath Shaw did the same except a friend knew. But they were only small bets but they had big winnings. Still, this went waayyyy over the top. Maxy and Shaw know that the consequences went too far but they have to act a bit here.
So if a player places a $10 bet on an AFL game they get fined $20,000 and suspended for 8 weeks but if you take performance enhancing drugs there is a 3 strike policy where no action is taken. how is that fair?
