As requested by CoolConfuzer, this is the original Mick Jones produced version of Straight To Hell that appears on Fort Patrol From Fort Bragg.
It's 1 min and 36 seconds (stretching into 6:55, not 7 min as everyone seems to believe) longer than the Combat Rock version with extended intro and outro and a few added lines about Alphabet City and some else. For me, Straight To Hell is just like Sean Flynn a song with such beautiful music that any added seconds is just something to be grateful for and I don't really mind the differences from the "real" version.
The drums seem a bit more pronounced and the guitars not so clear, but the real highlight of the song, Joe's voice, remains as conscise and bitter as ever. Overall, I don't think anyone had thought of this as "badly produced" had it been released '82. Raw maybe, but that's something else.
Anywho.

RIP Joe

  • @coolconfuzer I think Mick did much more work on that album than it's recognized to him: I think the only difference between the two versions is a cleaner sound on the final cut, but in terms of arrangements it's almost identical to Mick' version, so I personally consider the production to be much more a Mick's work than Glyn Johns'. Clash fans, I live you all.

  • coolconfuzer i think your attitude sucks, i'm 50 and grew up with THE CLASH. And some teenagers, children of friends of mine never heard of the clash until 4 years ago. One happend to come to my house and saw me whatching the Sraight to Hell Video your talking about and i now as big a Clash fan as i am along with many of her friends. A Pozer, i think not. Thanks for posting this AppoCC119 I love it

  • ok ! don't call me sweetie then !!

you should have explained your comment ;)

  • @goonchistaw The production of rock the casbah was done by mick not topper. there are 3 versions of rock the casbah album cut, rat patrol(micks) and remasted. dnt call me stupid please sweetie

  • @coolconfuzer are you serious or stupid ? "the only cut mick did right" what the fuck are you on about ?

nicky headon did "rock the casbah" all of it , & presented it to the band , so rock the casbah is all topper

    & 5 or 6 fools agree with you ....

  • Dude that little kid was right. MIA wripped this off of the clash.

  • Thanks, brings back great memories of Lawndale in the 70's-80's we sure had a lot of Viet. immigrants in those days.

  • Well, such is the way the world works. And really now, better he only be a "big deal" after his death, than him being ignored. After all, many future "true" Clash fans might not discover him otherwise.

  • im suprised you seem 2 know so much....joe died when i was 15 and i was listining to the clash for a good 4 years before he died...just makes me mad that now all the sudden hes a big deal a

  • No no, no need to go elitist here. Certainly Joe himself would not approve of such an attitude.

Besides, I must add that I had not even heard of The Clash at the time of Joe's death. Might have had something to do with me being 8 at the time, but still, by your reasoning I am a "poser".
