You should never touch someone else's sword without permission and you should rarely touch the "skin" of your own blade, too. The main reason is because the oils on your fingers will degrade the metal. So, sometimes you do touch your blade for actions like sheathing the sword. Thank you for the good question and for watching our videos. (answered by the team at Ninja Learning Network)

I have a question for you, sensei Roemke. I always hear "never touch the skin of the blade!" So that little pinch you do is generally acceptable then? Sword etiquette can be confusing! :)

Hey Sensei Roemke, I am a black belt in Kyokushin and am looking to expand my knowledge of the martial arts, and the katana was a weapon that has always intrigued me. I own two myself and have had a couple lessons on the basic strikes, but your videos were the first time that I actually put the blade on my side, and I can't seem to keep it there. The sword often feels awkward on my belt and sometimes produces pain on my hip, and it always slides down or does not align with my belt. any ideas?

@FallHardfilmschool Way to go, don't stop training! About your question, did you catch the other video on this channel about "wearing" a sword? We'll send it to your channel - that might help you. Also, you will have to practice every draw at least several hundred times each to get it right! ...gambatte!

sensei rormke i do not have a class like yours in my town in CA but i've began to practice most of the things you taught in my home made dojo (which is fine but small) is this safe to do or should i just find a martail art but it cost a lot any suggestions

@MultiNinja456 It's good to see you are concerned about safety because it can be dangerous, like any other sport. If you send us a message about where your home town is and what other experience you have with other martial arts, we might be able to help you find someone near you to get some help with training. Also, you can apply knowledge of other martial arts to training in Ninjutsu/Bujinkan.
