I saw a documentary where American marines reconstructed the infamous escape by the three men as portrayed in the film, and they said with the currents in the bay and weather etc, they could not have made it..The point is, if they didn't survive, why did they close the prison down if it was escape proof? Was is financial reasons etc?...Sensible answers please as I am a young guy who just became fascinated by the story and as I am from the UK I am not sure how the US penal system works.

One scene in there wasn't Alcatraz where it showed a long wall with a lookout on the far end which really is more like some "thrown in" shot of a castle. (32 seconds into film.) Otherwise nice shots!
