  • & If you would be able to explain how to draw it or give me a link to show it, then that would be awesome :)

  • @iqrasaeed93 Did you try your professor or any p-chem professor on your campus?

  • The mixing of the 2 p orbitals already takes orbital mixing into account?

  • @danielelteso Can you elaborate a little more?

  • @EnderlePhD the diagram from the vid only represents orbital mixing species (N2, C2, B2, etc) but not for diatomic molecules, on which orbital mixing doesnt apply (O2,F2,Ne2). There are interactions between orbitals with the same symmery (gerade and ungerade). THe σ2s g orbital interacts with the σ 2p g and orbital mixing applies, raising the energy of the bonding σ 2p, and lowering the one form 2s. This explains it better courses.chem.psu.edu/chem210/mol-gallery/oxygen/oxygen.html

  • @danielelteso Yes I know. What is not clear in the video that this diagram is for N2, C2, B2, etc.? Check out the first 10 seconds. The mystery atom is N or lower in atomic number. But I see how it could be confusing if one missed that part because I don't think I repeated it again later. This video is only an example problem. Some of my other videos have the concept explained in a little more detail. I hope this explanation helps. Cheers!
