The Bluebelt system in Richmond County are manmade streams, ponds, and local contiguous wetlands providing natural drainage corridors for storm water conveyance. Planned as a gravity flow system to control flooding from storms and overflowing storm drains. This Bluebelt system creates a natural ecosystem consisting of plants, animals and microorganisms in an area functioning together with non-living physical (abiotic) factors of the environment. The streams and pond water are filled with algae and other plant life darkening the water, yet supporting an estuary of fish, animals, and birds.
