The Boswell Sisters were a close harmony singing group that attained national prominence in the USA in the 1930s.

Sisters Martha Boswell (June 9, 1905 - July 2, 1958), Connee Boswell (December 3, 1907 - October 11, 1976), and Helvetia "Vet" Boswell (May 20, 1911 - November 12, 1988) were raised by a middle-class family on Camp Street in uptown New Orleans, Louisiana. Martha and Connee were born in Kansas City, Missouri. Helvetia was born in Birmingham, Alabama. (Connee's name was originally spelt Connie until she changed it in the 1940s.)

  • Th present-day Chenille Sisters borrowd this arrangement and did a fine tribute.

  • @joeypolanski

These gals were the best trio ever.

  • Thanks for posting. Beautiful.

  • My pleasure to share them!

  • Good job, thank for posting your records, I think I'll do same. I like Boswell Sisters. I have a Brunswick record of the Mills Brothers where they sing during a minute.

    Good Continuation

  • @pax41 Tru dat.

  • I agree, the best singing trio ever. Love it.

  • I never get enough of this recording. I don't know if I will ever get tired of it.

  • Lest we forget..what we're listening to here was an acoustic recording on shellac, not vinyl. Even if they've been cleaned up the sound quality is amazing. We are talking about 85 years ago for some of this stuff. Unbelievable!

  • I'd hop an ocean linah, just to be with Dinah!

  • have the feeling that the andrew sisters have made just copying them.... but they sound much better....!

  • @pax41

I guess I'm especialy partial to th Andrews Sisters; but it's impossible to read anything about them that doesnt mention th Boswell Sisters, whom I'd nevr heard till I found these vids on YT. What a delight! I am totally charmed!

It's a shame we'll never know how they would have sounded on modern-day recordings.

  • Keep reading. Vet and Martha married and Connie kept it going. They were definitely family-oriented...no fuss', feudin', or fightin'!!!!
