Too bad GWBush decided not to listen

i believe you are thinking of george washington's farewell speech in which he warned of the dangers of a large standing army during peacetime...this was NOT included as part of the constitution..

I believe Dwight Eisenhower was our last real President, and if we had any chance as a nation to fix the problems that were coming, it would have been w/ him, soon as he left office, the forces swept in, you can see that with the death of JFK, (the president who followed Ike)

@SumNJFella He certainly was the last one to have a clear view of the bigger picture. I'm not American but I do wish to see you guys do well and I hope one day you will have the chance to vote a man with Eisenhower's wisdom into office. He would probably have every difficulty possible and a whole lot of people trying to sabotage him, but it is not impossible.
