Chinese New Year Show: Dragon Dance

The Camden Chinese Community Centre asked Sifu Austin Goh to perform a dragon dance on their behalf for a 2007 Chinese New Year celebration show. As we are not a professional dragon dance troupe there are no complex moves in this performance.
The stage was much smaller than the area our handful of practice sessions took place in which threw us a bit. We have been requested to perform once again in a couple of months, hopefully we can make it cleaner and incorporate a few simple and recognizable moves.
The crowd gave us positive feed back, so I guess that's a good start!

  • Is it hard to make that dragon? My middle school wants to do a dragon dance, but...I don't know if we can now...

  • Hmm... If it is just for fun, it should not be too hard to make a basic one. You basically need, for example, 5 sticks. They would all have a small barrel/cylinder shape on the top (like the body of a snake). You would then need to run a length of cloth over all 5 and then maybe sow it up underneath to form a snake like body. (there are coiled wires inside the length of the body to keep it "fat", but the ones in here have already collapsed!). Decorate the end barrels as a head and tail.

  • That is a very quick description of how you MAY want to go about building one in a very basic way. Hope that helps. Could be a fun building project if anything!

  • may i know where izit?

  • Camden Town Hall near King's Cross station.

  • ic...it's in london isnt it?

    btw,it's nt bad...

  • Yes, London.

Thanks, that is kind of you to say.

We are not a pro or even amateur team. We were just asked to perform for an event. No doubt it wasn't very good but I think we did well for our first ever attempt with very limited practice =)
