  • Theravada is genuine Buddhism. Mahayana, Zen and it's Chinese parent Ch'an, Vajrayana, and Nichiren Buddhism are all the apostate forms of Buddhism the Buddha warned would come after his paranibbana.

There IS NO FLAVOR OF LIBERATION in any of these apostate forms of "Buddhism." I speak as a former sensei and priest of Hongaku Jodo, a Pure Land sect.

I returned to Theravada now in my old age, and am glad I did.

  • SADHU SADHU SADHU(^_^)he is right i am theravada buddhist myself, theravada buddhism is good

  • @veganRJ You are assuming the venerable is not liberated...a dangerous assumption.

Either way, anyone with basic knowledge of the original Nikayas knows that the Mahayana texts are later additions and NOT the word of the Buddha. The original Nikayas are the Dhamma, plain and simple, and the Buddhas dhamma is perfect in the beginning, middle, and end. It is complete and needs no addendum. Rather than wasting your time criticising great monks like this, educate yourself.

  • "They (Bhikshus) will slanderously speak evil of us, saying: 'these are men of false views who proclain heretical doctrines.' But we, from reverence for the Buddha, will endure all these evils...for the sake of preaching this sutra, we will endure all these hard things" (The Sutra of the Lotus Flower of the Wonderful Law)

  • Originally there wasn't any Mahayana or Theravada when the Buddha was around. Why make such distinctions?

Flavour of liberation not found in Mahayana sutras? I am afraid this can only be known by someone who is liberated.

Very disappointed to see these videos on the internet :( We should focus on whatever dharma door we have chosen and not make judgements on other dharma doors and caused Buddhists who do not understand to doubt. I hope the author can remove these videos.

  • lets not criticise the venerable. learn from him what makes sense and throw away what doesnt, if we criticise we fall into the same trap...including the condescending chuckles...

  • @OLFbubbles123 i respect mahayana very much . but in summary u got to know that mahayana encourage to wander through samsara Animal, preta, asura, hell realms. where as theravada stream enterer can achieve liberation and free from suffering with in 7 lives. if someone says that buddha did not teach the dhamma properly its a huge insult to buddha's 8 th quality "Buddho" of nine qualities. i recommend all the mahayana people to read Theravada Majjima Nikaya and theravadas to read mahayana suttas.

  • The Dhamma of Gotama has one flavor only like the taste of salt why we have Amitabha flavor with a hell full of filth and spikes for all meat eaters "even they don't kill animals" haha Mahayanists are schismatics from the real sangha why believe them anyway, that is why Theravada exists :)

  • agree.

  • I agree with huns. So too, this 'monk ' should be spreading the dhamma instead of criticising Mahayana and the monasteries he went too. He is protraying himself as victim wherever he went. He is trying to seek sympathy, perhaps from his devotees in his own monastery, through the interview. One can detects it through listening to the whole interview He should examine himself rather then putting blame on others. This is a good example of an egoistic 'monk'. Beware of him devotees.
