HITCHIN' WITH JESUS
Ten miles from nowhere on a lonesome highway
Rusted, mistrusted in the Tenessee rain
My clothes were all tattered, there were more holes than jeans
My shoes may be dirty, but my conscience was clean
I'd been walking for hours, alone and friendless
When a pair of headlights half scared me to death
They came out of nowhere with an unearthly gleam
High octane, fire red, stretch limousine
Pulled up beside me and screached to a halt
Felt like my heart had bounced off the asphalt
Cuz there in the backseat big as you please
Was that crafty old devil just smiling at me
He said step right in here's a dry cigarette
Have a drink, put your feet up, CD of cassette
What's a smart boy like you doing out in the rain
When you could have money, bright lights and champagne
The world is your apple, go on take a bite
I can make every day seem like Saturday night
This is the chance of a lifetime, you'll do just fine
All you need to do is just sign on this line
I looked at the devil, I looked at the rain
You're offers sure tempting, but I'll pass just the same
Got booted right out of that stretch linousine
My shoes were still dirty, but my conscience was clean
When that crafty old devil happen along
You may be right but he'll tell you you're wrong
No more tribulation, trouble or strife
I'll be hitching with Jesus down the highway of life
