This song is about my experience last Christmas ('09). I was really excited about Christmas - more into it than usual, even. And when it came time to make that annual trip from Nashville to my original home in Iowa, I was ready. My bags were packed and stacked, waiting by the door, along with the piles of Christmas presents I'd bought. The weather reports however, were ominous... winter storm blanketing the Midwest...hundreds of accidents...road closures...advisories... I kept waiting for the storm to let up, but by Christmas it was at its worst. So, I had to stay in Tennessee, knowing my family was all together - laughing, eating, probably squabbling... without me. it was a lonely Christmas and this is the song I wrote as a result when I started thinking about Christmas this year.
