The League of Imaginary Scientists prepare for their final flighty exposition at MOCA: The Zephyr Experiment.
The Zephyr Experiment is the third and final artwork presented by The League of Imaginary Scientists for MOCA's Engagement Party residency program. Similar to their previous works, Wormholes and The Automatoggler, The Zephyr Experiment invites museum visitors to join the artists in a hands-on experience of invention and experimentation, this time around explorations of human flight and floatation. The project takes the form of various installations placed around the outdoor spaces of MOCA Grand Avenue. A testing lab of experimental aircraft spans two levels, where visitor-built prototypes may be flown or floated; The Incredible Floating Dr. Schleidan instructs visitors to "operate with vigor" a contraption that will levitate a League member; and the Learn to Fly station invites participants to flap their own wings to achieve flight. In combining the factual with the fanciful, The Zephyr Experiment opens up the rigorous process of scientific inquiry to artistic invention and play.
