Lance Armstrong Dispatches Syringe Man On Palomar Mountain

In the final stage of the Tour Of California 2009, Lance Armstrong pulled off a move that I suspect he (or any competitive cyclist) has been wanting to perform since he was taken down by a fan's lanyard grabbing his handlebar on an uphill stage in the sixth (correction - fifth on the climb to Luz Ardiden) of his seven Tour de France wins.

An exhibitionist fan dressed up in a black and yellow costume and carrying an apparatus that resembled two syringes on a stick (people have dubbed "Syringe Man"), was running along side of the peloton on snow covered Palomar Mountain. The man was alone and presented a hazard to the riders as they made their way up the mountain as he was alone and looking as if he were running in an unpredictable manner.

As the Peloton, led by Lance Armstrong's Astana Cycling Team team mates passed by the fan, Lance Armstrong helped "Syringe Man" out of the way and deposited him in a snowbank at the side of the road - hazard dispatched!

Come on folks. We're all cycling fans here. Let's focus on that and not who has been following the sport longer. I'm 33 and I've been following cycling since I was a kid and I love that fact that there are a lot more fans in the US thanks to Lance. If someone got into cycling because of what Lance has done, fantastic. It's a great sport. If someone has been into their whole lives and remembers Mercks and Hinault, awesome. pass on that love for the sport.

California has the highest number of cyclist in America, while also holding the most events. Californians are probably the most knowledgeable people on cycling in the States.

I agree indusrtial, Californians looked like complete tools. Organizers should have had barriers over the top. Most runners in other races actual run alongside their countrymen and cheer them on, not get in the way and look like complete jackasses. What can you expect from CA? Not much apparently.
