This is a package tying machine in the mailroom at my office. It's a wonderful example of early 20th century American technical design. It was made by the Bunn Company and it is powered by an Emerson Electric motor. Those were American companies with American workers - no outsourcing! It's quite old (there are no zip codes shown on the label with the manufacurer's address; the serial number is only five digits) and it still works very well.

The machine is activated by a foot pedal; the operator holds the package in place while the machine does the work. I have never seen anything that does a better job of tying a package or a bundle of letters.
